Well, this took a while (it feels like I have said this before;), but here is a next upgrade for vonHUD and all which extend it — and that is quite much. With the integrated Satellite View (PageUp Key on your keyboard) new possibilities opened up. What was originally just thought to have a better way for commanding your mechs around is now getting more and more a commander's suite.

One major overhaul is the look — the standard view of vonCommander is now a nice blue-ish scanner overlay style with outlines and glows. Neon galore! Or was this already last time? ;)

But now for the major add-ons:

Battlefield Supplies & Mission Drops

I have taken the vanilla Mechwarrior 5 Air Strikes and transformed them into "Battlefield Supplies". Vanilla MW5 Airstrikes are a little too unimportant. But now the points sent when you negotiate contracts are now making it addtionally possible to:

  • Drop a Mine Field

  • Build a Field Base with (currently) 2 Repair Bays

  • Build an Assault Base with a good number of turrets

  • Drop Lights, Mediums, or a Heavy Mech

  • Drop a Tank Squad

  • Drop a VTOL Squad

And you can get to Air Strike Mode and place an Airstrike on the Map with just a mouse click. Boom.

This new "Drop Ins" System can also be extended in the future with new stuff, or even refined with building more around Airstrike negotiation points and making alternative tactical options for your MW5 missions.

Especially the Mine Field is quite fun — but also dangerous! :)

 

But there is more:

With the new version, you can also:

  • Move a slider to fade between scanner overlay and normal view

  • Even command and control your Mech, which is taken over by an AI when you go to Satellite view, and reacts to your mouse clicks like the other lance mates

  • Set "Neurohelmet Time": this controls the scale of time, which comes in handy if you need to send your squad on a long walk.

For sure, things are a little Beta — if there is a hiccup happening, or something not working as it should, please forgive the inconvenience. Also, switching out and back to vonCommander can help.

One more thing:

There is an experiment built in — if you press "I" (like in icecream;) you exit your mech (instantly;) and can walk around as a person. It is just a gimmick — for now, let's see! ;)

 

Current Mod incompatibilities:

With extended functionality, there are also overlaps. So far, in tests, we have identified the following mod incompatibility:

* Advanced Zoom, Simple Zoom

The Zoom mods do not act well when the HUD is removed at the moment.

Ideally, I will find a way to make the Zoom mods compatible again, please keep your fingers crossed! After mech switching (Y) Advanced Zoom works again - so at least there is a work around at the moment.

* Battlegrid Orders

Breaks stuff in vonCommander

In case you prefer using an incompatible mod instead of vonCommander, I have added the Mod Option to deactivate vonCommander.

 

 

Next a little creative work :)

This extension was quite a ride and much work — for the next step I would like to get back to vonBiomes once more, applying the learned things and do a little more creative work for Mechwarrior 5. I hope that is okay;) The creative side is important to refresh:)
